Vata Diet - Balance Your Movements

People Belonging to Vata Diet

Vata dosha is cold, dry and aggravating, so the food you eat to balance should be just the opposite- warm, succulent and comforting. Do not consume raw food. Try to eat hot food. Even if you are on a diet, do not go for uncooked salads and sprouts; eat boiled vegetables instead. Warm, well-cooked grains like rice, wheat or oats are very good for people belonging to Vata. Freshly baked bread, chapattis and paranthas are good for Vata dosha too.

As Vata dosha is dry, drinking warm liquids is advised. A long glass of warm milk with honey would be very good for you. Warm milk soothes the dosha and honey is especially good for this type of dosha. All dairy products- milk, butter, ghee, cottage cheese, etc are advised for Vata dosha. Add a little ghee to your food every day.

Eat a lot of fleshy fruits like berries, citrus fruits, papaya, grapes, mangoes, plums and raisins, etc. Adding coconut to your diet is recommended. Some fruits like apples, cranberries and watermelon are not suitable. But you can consume these fruits cooked. Do not go for fruits that are dry. But surprisingly you can eat a lot of nuts- almonds, cashews, and hazelnuts- anything! They are excellent for Vata Spices are warm and are therefore good. You can choose them to lightly flavor your food. Use ginger, coriander, black pepper, turmeric etc.

You can be imaginative- consume soups, stews, well-cooked vegetables as long as they are not cold. Leafy vegetables, carrots, asparagus, peas, green beans can be used in you food. Try not to take cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli, mushroom and eggplant. Avoid cornflakes and other similar dry breakfast products. Crackers and cookies too are a no-no.

Do not eat red meat, but you can eat chicken and all seafood, in moderation. Remember: The tastes sweet, sour and salty are good for you, but not anything that is bitter.
