Ayurveda Kapha Diet - Mental and Physical Balance

Kapha Diet in Ayruveda

Kapha is a combination of two elements – water and earth. It is widely known that people with Kapha dosha are generally heavy weighted, with a robust frame and padded joints. The function of the Kapha dosha is to manage the structural integrity of the body. The physical and general characteristics of Kapha dosha separate it from other known doshas.

The Diet Plan

People with Kapha dosha are advised to follow a diet plan with particular guidelines. The guidelines that help in maintaining dosha balance in the body include-

• People with Kapha dosha should prefer to eat warm and light food.

• Prefer food with minimum usage of water, butter, oil, and sugar. Consumption of dry fruit is encouraged.

• Avoid eating too much sweet and fatty food.

• It is advisable to take light breakfast and dinner. Always keep a check on salt consumption during the day.

• In order to stimulate appetite, prefer to eat romaine lettuce, endive and drink tonic water.

• In winters, prefer eating spicy food like hot Mexican and Indian food.

• Avoid eating dairy foods like cheese, butter, and ice cream. Prefer to include raw fruits, vegetables, and salads in your meals.

While choosing a diet for Kapha during spring, always keep in mind that Kapha dosha aggravates and increases during this season. Therefore apart from following the given diet plan, try to eat less food and more dry fruit and fibrous food. In addition, herbs like ginger are good for Kapha dosha.
