The Kapha Diet Suggested Foods

The Kapha diet list requires you to consume foods that have the astringent, bitter and pungent tastes. Avoid the tastes that increase the Kapna Dosha such as salty, sweet and sour.

The Kapha should favor food that is warm, light, and dry. Also favored for the Kapha are spicy foods such as Indian, Chinese and Thai. Avoid those dishes that are deep fried, contain too much oil, have added sugar or fish sauce.

For breakfast avoid cold cereals, sugar pastries, bacon and sausage. For lunch avoid dairy such as cheese, ice cream, butter. Also avoid oily, salty, sweet, deep fried and fatty foods. Favor raw fruits, vegetables and salads.

Meats

Chicken (White meat), eggs, freshwater fish, rabbit, shrimp, turkey (white meat) and venison.

Vegetables

Artichoke, asparagus, beets, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, cilantro, corn, eggplant, garlic, green beans, green chillies, horseradish, jerusalem artichoke, kale, leafy greensLeeks, lettuce, mushrooms, mustard greens, okra, onions, parsley, peas, peppers, radishes, rutabaga, spaghetti squash, spinach, sprouts, summer squash, turnip greens, turnips, watercress, wheatgrass Sprouts.

DAIRY

Goats milk, yogurt, skimmed cottage Cheese.

Fruits

Apples, applesauce, apricots, berries, cherries, cranberries, guava, peaches, pears, persimmons, pomegranates, prunes, raisins.

Grains

Barley, buckwheat, corn, crackers, durham flour, granola, millet, muesli, oat bran, dry oats, polenta, rye, sago, sprouted wheat bread, tapioca, wheat bran.

Legumes

Black Beans, black-eyed peas, garbanzo beans, lentils, lima beans, mung beans, navy beans, dried Peas, pinto Beans, soy Sausages, split Peas, white Beans

Seeds

Chia, popcorn without salt or butter, pumpkin, sunflower.

Oils

Almond, canola, corn, ghee, sesame, sunflower

Spices

Allspice, almond extract, anise, basil, bay Leaf, black Pepper, caraway, cardamom, cayenne, clove, cinnamon, coriander, cumin, curry leaves, dill, garlic, ginger, mint, mustard seeds, nutmeg, orange peel, oregano, paprika, parsley, peppermint, poppy Seeds, Rosemary, saffron, sage, spearmint, tarragon, thyme, turmeric, wintergreen

Drinks

Alcohol (dry red or white wine in limited amounts), apricot juice, black tea, carob, carrot juice,cranberry Juice, crape juice, peach nectar, pear juice, pomegranate juice, prune juice, soy milk

Condiments

Black Pepper, chillie pepper, coriander leaves, horseradish, mustard, scallions, sprouts

The Kapha needs activity and stimulation to avoid lethargy, sluggishness and depression. Meals should be of the right size to nourish the body without overeating.
